Conversation between Paul Graham and Urs Stahel at Paris Photo 2014
In this hour long video Paul Graham explains the motivations behind his major projects of the last 30 years and, more interestingly, how he approached each and why. It’s an interesting talk highlighting how Graham tries to approach subjects from novel points of view rather than conforming to established aesthetics of a particular genre. He consequently challenges us to think about what makes a good ‘street’ or ‘social documentary’ image. He voices his distaste for ‘street’ photography and preference his designation ‘urban’ (seems more liberal, less doctrinaire). His reticence and thoughtfulness is a good antidote to the ‘hero’ photographer stereotype too.
